There is a beach directly down the North stairway at our condo complex. It is a small beach but it is very nice. Snorkeling and swimming inside the reef are safe in this area. Just remember, when in doubt, don’t go out – in inclement weather, the wind/waves can get very large and the current can be very strong outside the reef.
There are also some great beaches close by the condos;
DT Fleming beach park is just below the Kapalua golf course off of the Honoapiilani Highway and is a shared beach with the Ritz Carlton. It’s close and a GREAT beach for surfing and playing in the water. Not good for snorkeling though. North of our condo about 3 miles.
Honolua Bay has a great park but it’s rocky. North of Kaplua off of the Honoapiilani Highway. World class snorkeling here and the women’s world surfing championships were held here in early December. It’s an amazing place. North of our condo about 4 miles. Don’t let the locals charge you to enter the park. It’s free but they’ve set up their own toll both. I always just give them a chuckle and a “ya mon” on my way by.
Mokuleia Bay and Slaughterhouse Beach are close too. This is kind of a “secret beach” It’s on the Honoapiilani highway on the way to Honolua. Easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. Look for a set of stairs heading down through the jungle on the left. North of our Condo about 3.5 miles.
Honokowai Beach Park is across from the farmers market. On Lower Honoapiilani Road. There is a health food store in the shopping complex that has some of the BEST acai bowls I’ve ever had. Bad Ass Coffee is also in this complex. It’s a great place for an early morning cup of coffee and a quick stroll on the beach. It can get kind of crowded in the afternoon with kids. About 1.5 miles south of our condo.
Honoapiilani Park is directly across the street from the Times Market in Honokowai on Lower Honoapiilani Road. It looks like the entrance to the Honua Kai Condominiums and it is the back entrance. It is also the entrance to one of the best beach parks on this side of the island. You should discover this area on your own. There is a lot of parking and best of all there is a boardwalk that goes all the way to the Sheraton at Black Rock Beach. From here you can go around to the other side of Kaanapali Beach and stroll all the way down to the Hyatt on Kaanapali Beach. If you go around the Hyatt and through the access to Hanakao’o Beach Park you can get all the way to Lahaina. It is about a five mile walk all on a public beach walkway. This is a great way to “waste” a day! The access to this park is about 2 miles south of our condo.
And then there is Kaanapali Beach, Black Rock Beach, Airport Beach, S-Turns and many other beaches and parks around the area. Most of these beaches are VERY crowded.
S-turns is a small beach close to the condo. Great for surfing. We have seen a lot of turtles on the beach here in the late afternoon.
There is also a beach access corridor just to the north of the China Boat restaurant about 3 blocks from the condo. It is near the Kahana Outrigger Condominiums. This is a great beach close by.
All the beaches in Hawaii are public.
